It’s not enough to win the election. Even though there is a Republican in the Governor’s office, there needs to be a political arm working on behalf of the party.
That is why so much was made in the press over who the new DSC Chairman would be. ( Alright, alright, in this space too. Whatever. get off my back ).
But while the Democrats have kept the DSC viable, there appears to be a bit of a void over at RSC. A lot of the people working there were campaigners. But when the campaign ends, they move on. The new employees need to fundraise and focus on local races but there is no one there to really do that. There is no Executive Director, and apparently there is some “butting of heads” over who should replace Dan Centinello.
I’m told that Assemblyman Jay Webber has been fighting with the governor’s staff, namely Bill Stepien. The consensus candidate for ED was Bridget Kelly, but Webber’s key allies wouldn’t allow it. The word is that Scott Rumana objected.
Anyway, party insiders say whatever the issue is it needs to be resolved soon. Christie may be headed into his biggest fight yet ( over the state budget ) and “there is no functioning state party.”
